these open shop nights!
The students have been presenting what they make, putting on performances and
displaying great inventiveness! All impromptu and student led!

we should start calling them Open Shine night!)

People Poles – for our Fun Fest Parade Float
Ages 3-5 yr with parent (parent is
free)
Ages 6-16 yr (groups will be divided by ages)
WeÕre going to take recycled materials, shrink wrap them to forms; add
paint, decoupage, and wacky additions! Stuck on a pole, these fun –
waterproof heads make great yard art! When weÕre done weÕll show them off at
the Heritage Hillside Series and on our float in the New Richmond Fun Fest
Parade!

Heritage Hillside Series is a free music event at the Heritage Center starting
Wednesday, July 11 at 6:30. YouÕre welcome to bring a picnic dinner and stay
for the music and a quick People Pole parade!

Public Art Classes
In
the following New Richmond summer classes, students will work together to
create artwork for display in public spaces throughout the community.
Make a Mini Monster – for the New Richmond
Public Library
Ages 6-9 yr
We are excited to offer this age group the opportunity to help us create Òmini
monstersÓ who will be listening to the Òbig monsterÓ read a book in the park at
the Library! (High school youth will create the big monster on Service Learning
Day.) Students will shape soil and clay to form the heads for the mini monsters
and add fun plants for the hair! There will be time for a few other garden
projects as well! DonÕt miss this playful opportunity to create a lasting piece
of garden art at the Library!

Fee: $20
Wear clothes to get dirty in. Please bring child size gloves and have sunblock
on.
Bring the Monsters to Life!
Ages 10-15 yr
Three ÒmonstersÓ have been created by the high school youth on Service
Learning Day and theyÕre ready to come to life! In this class, students will
use recycled materials to create the parts of each monster that bring it
character and life (eyes, nose, etc). We will mosaic using tile and found
objects, and learn how to create outdoor structures using cement and wire. Drop
off locations will be determined prior to start of class.

Greenway (corner of Cty Rd. G. and Knowles Ave.)
Fee: $30
Wear clothes to get dirty in. We will be working outside, please bring garden
gloves, water bottle and have sunblock on.
Plastic
Bottlecap Mosaics
All ages
Ages 4-6 must attend with adult.
This is a great parent/child(ren) project. Adults are
free.
Starting with a 4Õx4Õ piece of plywood, students will create a mosaic
from start to finish including: drawing the image, painting and screwing down
the bottlecaps. The finished mosaics will be displayed in a public location
-tbd! Groups of 3-4 will be formed based on age or students can sign up with
friends/siblings to work on one piece together.

Mary Park Cement Planter Mosaics
Ages 10-up
There are 6 cement planters in Mary Park that need sprucing up and we
have just the thing! Students will learn how to create a mosaic by designing,
assembling and grouting ceramic tiles to create beautiful planters that will be
displayed for years to come!

Class will meet at Mary Park. Please dress appropriate and bring water bottle,
sunblock, sunglasses and a snack.

Phipps Center for Art
The following are classes we
offer through Summer Art Camp at the Phipps.

Kid Caves
Ages 7 and older
Start with a perfectly good, usable tent then
combine wacky materials with your imagination to create a one-of-a-kind kid
cave that's decorated inside and out. Have fun playing in it all summer.
June 26 and 27

Remote
Control Madness
Ages 7-9
Start with a perfectly nice remote control car and make it into an awesome
remote controlled art piece. New cars are provided, along with found objects,
recycled materials, hot glue, tools, and paint. Turn your car into whatever
kind of vehicle you can dream up.
July 12 and 13

Tracks,
Tunnels and Jumps
Ages 10-12
Work as a class to make a track for your remote controlled vehicle with wood,
found objects, recycled materials, hot glue, and tools. Use your
imagination to create tunnels, ramps, jumps and more. Bring your own
vehicle, or borrow one from the instructor. (Instructors are not
responsible for vehicles brought to class.)
July 30 - August 1

Get
a Head of Me!
Ages 9-12
Using recycled materials, make 3-dimensional,
larger-than-life heads and shrink-wrap them! Give them personality with
paint, decoupage and wacky elements. Put on a pole, these make wonderful
garden art.
July 31 and August 1

Preschool
Canvas Art
Ages 3-4
Create 3-dimensional canvases with paint and found objects such as puzzle
pieces, marbles, feathers, and more. Kids get to create and adults assist
with glue guns and assembly. The finished project is sure to be a family
treasure.
August 7 and 9
9:00 – 10:00

Crazy
Stacks
Ages 8-10
Stack pennies, cards, paper cups, Oreo
cookies, milk caps and more into gravity-defying towers and sculptures.
Work to set records and make something unbelievable along the way.
Pictures will be taken, but towers will not be able to be moved. No glue
will be used, just imagination and careful fingers.
August 7 and 9

Magical
Mini Vignettes
Ages 11-14
There is something about tiny scenery that captures our imagination. Use
a fun collection of mini items to create furniture for a room or garden items
for an outdoor scene. Bring patience and a steady hand.

12:30 – 2:00
Fee: $29
Mr.
Potato Head Makeover
Ages 3-4 with an adult
The iconic Mr. Potato Head was originally produced as separate plastic parts to
stick into a real potato or other vegetable. This class will go back to
basics and preschoolers will create the real deal, with a funky twist.
Use found objects, recycled materials and many treasures to create potato
people, accessories, and more.
